The number of newborns in the Lviv region decreased by nearly a thousand in 2024 compared to the previous year, according to official data.
Oksana Vendysh, the chief specialist of the Civil Status Registration Department (DRACS) of the Lviv Region, reported that 15,642 birth records were registered last year, compared to 16,638 in 2023.
The Main Department of Statistics in the Lviv Region confirms that birthrates have been steadily declining, especially since the start of the full-scale war. For example:
- 2018 — 23,253 newborns;
- 2019 — 21,803;
- 2020 — 21,129;
- 2021 — 19,440.
In Lviv, the trend is also downward. According to the Lviv City Council, 3,667 children were born in city maternity hospitals in 2024:
- 2,667 in the First Medical Association;
- 1,000 in the Second Medical Association.
Among the newborns, there were 1,857 boys and 1,810 girls. Additionally, 32 twin births were recorded last year.

- 2023 — 4,012 newborns in Lviv;
- 2022 — 3,801;
- 2021 — 4,961.
