Two teenagers operated on at Lviv Clinical Centre of Paediatric Medicine after road accident

In Lviv, at the municipal non-profit enterprise of the Lviv Regional Council “Clinical Centre of Paediatric Medicine”, orthopaedic trauma surgeons have performed operations on two teenagers who were injured in a road traffic accident involving a motorbike.

According to the doctors, 15-year-old Bohdan and 17-year-old Maksym sustained multiple injuries as a result of a collision between a motorbike and a car. Bohdan was diagnosed with a pelvic bone fracture. During the operation, surgeons aligned the damaged area and fixed it with two metal plates.

Maksym was found to have several fractures of the bones of his left foot. The doctors performed osteosynthesis of the calcaneus, securing it with special screws. Both boys are currently in the recovery phase. In approximately 5–6 months, the medical team plans to carry out the next stage of treatment – removal of the implanted metal plates and screws.

“In recent years, we have been seeing children and teenagers more often with injuries sustained while riding motorbikes, e-scooters and bicycles. We urge parents and children to follow safety rules and always use protective equipment, including helmets and knee and elbow protection,” emphasise the doctors of the Clinical Centre of Paediatric Medicine.

The institution stresses that the use of protective equipment and compliance with the Highway Code significantly reduces the risk of serious injuries in children and teenagers.
