The Lviv Regional Oncology Center has opened a renovated radiotherapy department and a computed tomography cabinet.

Today, on May 21, the Lviv Oncological Regional Diagnostic and Treatment Center opened the renovated radiotherapy department No. 1 and the computed tomography cabinet. This will improve access to modern diagnostic and treatment methods for oncology diseases for residents of Lviv and nearby regions.

The computed tomography cabinet was renovated with funds from the oncology center, while the new GE Revolution Maxima Healthcare computed tomography scanner was purchased by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine using state budget funds. \”The new equipment will allow for high-quality patient diagnostics and reduce patient wait times for diagnostics and radiotherapy planning. The cost of the computed tomography scanner is 13.5 million UAH, and we carried out the renovation of the computed tomography cabinet with the hospital’s funds, spending almost 3 million UAH,\” said the general director of the oncology center, Oleg Duda.

In the radiotherapy department, modernized 12 rooms with 30 beds were equipped, and a conditioning and air recovery system was installed. Almost 10 million UAH from the regional budget was directed towards the renovation of this department. \”Regarding the Lviv Oncology Center, we have great plans with the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration Maksym Kozytskyi and all stakeholders involved. We want to create a modern nuclear medicine center here for the entire western Ukraine. We are very grateful for the support of the Ministry of Health and personally to Minister Viktor Liashko.\”

Over two years, we have invested hundreds of millions of hryvnias from the regional budget into this hospital. Besides the renovation of the premises, we also purchased equipment for radiography and brachytherapy, which is currently being installed. The reconstruction of another building is planned to be carried out this year using funds from the European Investment Bank,” stated Yuriy Kholod, Acting Chairman of the Lviv Regional Council.

According to the center’s information, over 8236 patients were examined using the CT method in 2024. More than 2200 cancer patients underwent a course of radiotherapy, and almost half of them were in the inpatient radiotherapy department No. 1. Health Minister Viktor Liashko brought a commendation from Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal for the team of the regional oncology center during the opening of the department. He also emphasized that despite military challenges, the government is trying to implement an oncology medicine development strategy, as the statistics of such diseases, unfortunately, are increasing.

\”We have already purchased 232 computed tomography scanners for medical institutions in different regions, as early diagnosis is important for us. We also acquired 21 linear accelerators: some are already working, others are awaiting launch. Currently, 25 of the most modern diagnostic mammographs will arrive, which will primarily be installed in oncology centers. One of them will be delivered to this hospital,\” informed Health Minister Viktor Liashko.
