At the municipal non-profit enterprise of the Lviv Regional Council “Lviv Regional Clinical Perinatal Centre”, doctors successfully performed an emergency operation on a patient at 11 weeks of pregnancy. The pregnancy was developing in a rudimentary horn of the uterus, which posed an immediate risk of tissue rupture and massive internal bleeding.
Doctors explain that this is a rare congenital anomaly, when alongside the main uterus there is an additional underdeveloped element. In such a situation, the risk of severe complications that are life-threatening for the woman increases.
Specialists of the Department of Gynaecology and Fetal Medicine performed surgical intervention: they reconstructed the uterus and removed the abnormal area. After the operation, the threat to the patient's life was eliminated, and in the future she will be able to plan a pregnancy.
“Such clinical cases highlight the importance of accurate ultrasound diagnostics, specialised surgical care and teamwork. In our facility, we provide a comprehensive approach and perform a wide range of surgical interventions to preserve women's health,” the doctors note.
