Successful surgery for a 6-year-old boy after an accident

A team of doctors successfully operated on a 6-year-old boy with complications following severe liver trauma sustained in a car accident.

Maksym, a 6-year-old boy from the Ternopil region, was admitted to the hospital after a complex car accident. He suffered combined injuries: a fracture of the right humerus and an abdominal injury with rupture of two liver lobes. After first aid in Ternopil, where a laparotomy was performed and his condition stabilized, Maksym was transferred to our Center with a complication – bile peritonitis.

“This is a serious condition where bile enters the abdominal cavity and causes inflammation, which can be life-threatening,” explained the doctors.

Our team of surgeons performed a relaparotomy, revision, and sanitization of the abdominal cavity. They identified the site of bile leakage, which was causing the peritonitis, and successfully stopped the discharge. The operation was extremely complex, but thanks to the professionalism of our team, Maksym is recovering successfully.

He is currently under constant medical supervision, undergoing ultrasounds and awaiting further removal of the metal frame on his shoulder by our orthopedic traumatologists.

The team of doctors treating Maksym: surgeon, Director of the “Okhmatdyt” Children’s Medical Center – Bohdan Malovanyi, surgeon, Head of the Emergency and Minimally Invasive Surgery Clinic – Ihor Hulavskyi, surgeon, Head of the Hospital’s Operating Division – Oleh Sodoma, surgeon, Professor of the Department of Pediatric Surgery – Andriy Pereyaslov, as well as anesthesiologist, Head of the Intensive Care Unit – Vira Pryimakova, and operating nurse – Oksana Tytar.

The diagnosis was carried out by the Head of the Department of Radiological and Functional Diagnostics, ultrasound doctor Olesya Borova-Halay and radiologist Zenovia Zhydiak.

“We thank the team for their professionalism and dedication to children. Every life saved is our shared success!”
