In Lviv, as part of the “Health Week” campaign, almost 6,800 people were examined free of charge over three days in medical tents set up in different parts of the community.
Doctors note that this is one of the highest figures recorded since this initiative began. At the temporary points, including on Rynok Square, people undergo basic examinations and consult with doctors.
Based on the first days of the campaign, doctors identified suspected hepatitis B and C in 33 people, elevated glucose levels in 1,026 people, impaired visual acuity in 1,468 people, and raised intraocular pressure in 268 people. High blood pressure was recorded in 1,854 people, and cardiovascular risk factors were identified in 1,830 people. Flat feet were found in 296 people, and abnormalities during dermatoscopy in 123 people.
Thanks to digital screening for diabetic retinopathy, deviations from the norm were detected in 27 people. Helicobacter pylori bacteria were diagnosed in 170 people, and risks of prostate disease in 46 men. Abnormal electrocardiogram readings were recorded in 240 people, and 42 patients received emergency care on the spot.
“This year there are a great many people, with some tents seeing real crowds. Most often we diagnose people with high blood pressure and cardiovascular risk factors, elevated blood sugar and impaired visual acuity,” said the head of the city health department, Marta Matiushko.
This year, in the medical tents you can have your blood pressure measured, your glucose level checked, your cardiovascular risk assessed, have an electrocardiogram, be tested for HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B and C, for Helicobacter pylori, have your eyesight and intraocular pressure checked, and undergo digital screening for diabetic retinopathy. Consultations with a dentist and examinations by a dermatologist are also available, as well as checks for colour blindness, PSA testing to identify risks of prostate disease in men, and determination of blood group and Rhesus factor.
“Health Week” in Lviv is ongoing: you can still be examined in the medical tents today and tomorrow. Today the locations are open from 11:00 to 18:00, and tomorrow from 10:00 to 15:00.
