International Surgical Mission Launched in Lviv

The 12th international surgical mission has commenced in Lviv, becoming the largest of its kind in Ukraine in terms of patient numbers. Renowned specialists from Ukraine and the USA will conduct around 25 complex reconstructive surgeries on children with congenital facial anomalies. Some of these operations will last over six hours.

The uniqueness of this mission lies in the free placement of customised titanium implants, created using a 3D printer, for five children. The cost of a single implant ranges from 7 to 10 thousand dollars.

“This mission gives children the chance to breathe properly, speak, and smile. Collaborative work with foreign colleagues and the implementation of unique 3D technologies is a significant step forward for paediatric medicine in Ukraine,” stated the head of the Children’s Medicine Centre, Bohdan Malovanyi.

During the operation of the Reconstruction Mission, doctors have conducted over 1150 consultations, performed 264 complex reconstructive surgeries, and placed 27 customised titanium implants.
