Crisis accommodation space and social laundry to be created in Lviv

In Lviv, the Municipal Centre for Social Services and Rehabilitation “Dzherelo” plans to open new spaces to support people in difficult life circumstances. These include crisis short-term accommodation, a social laundry and a mobility aids rental point. A session of the Lviv City Council has approved the transfer of two premises to the Dzherelo Centre for lease for a period of five years.

The new services will be provided in premises at 78 Heroiv UPA Street and 34 Volodymyra Velykoho Street. Both sites require renovation and fitting out, so the centre plans to attract off-budget resources and support from partners, including charitable foundations and international organisations.

At 78 Heroiv UPA Street, they plan to create a space for crisis short-term accommodation for people who need urgent assistance and a safe place to stay. It will offer shelter to those who, due to the war or other circumstances, have lost their documents, lost contact with relatives, been left without support or are in need of care. Particular emphasis will be placed on supporting people with limited mobility, who find it especially difficult to secure housing and arrange the necessary care on their own.

In the premises at 34 Volodymyra Velykoho Street, a social laundry and a mobility aids rental point will operate. The laundry will be aimed at older people, low-income families and other residents who do not have a working washing machine or are physically unable to take care of their laundry and adequate household conditions themselves.

At the rental point, adults who have partially lost their mobility due to age, illness or other reasons will be able to obtain aids for movement and everyday use. The centre’s specialists have many years of experience in the field of rehabilitation, so they will help select appropriate aids and teach people how to use them.

The director of the Dzherelo Centre, Zoreslava Liulchak, stressed that the need for social support in the Lviv community is constantly growing, as more and more people are facing poverty, loss of mobility, loneliness or a lack of proper care. According to her, expanding access to such services is an important step to ensure that residents can receive timely assistance regardless of their age, state of health or life circumstances.

“We want people in the community to be able to receive help in good time, regardless of their age, state of health or life circumstances. The allocation of these premises is an important step towards creating additional opportunities to support those who need it most,” said the director of the Dzherelo Centre, Zoreslava Liulchak.

The Municipal Centre for Social Services and Rehabilitation “Dzherelo” provides support to families in difficult life circumstances, children and adults with disabilities, older people, homeless people, as well as those affected by domestic violence. In total, the centre offers more than 20 types of social and rehabilitation services.

In addition to its daily work with beneficiaries, Dzherelo develops and implements new models of social services, which are later adopted by other communities in Ukraine. The centre also has substantial experience in attracting charitable funds and implementing grant-funded projects, which makes it possible to expand the range of support available to residents of the Lviv community.
