The first children’s mental health room in Ukraine opened in the Saint Nicholas Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv. This is a space where young patients can rest and acquire new skills: engage in art therapy and other useful activities.
The room appeared in the hospital thanks to the Ukrainian American Cultural Club of Houston, Liberty Ukraine and the NGO “Principle of Consciousness”.
“Such a room should be in every medical institution. This is a room of good mood and it has the same importance as the wards where diseases are treated. Our art therapists help children who are undergoing treatment to overcome feelings and stress, and to gain strength,” said Roman Lobai, president of the NGO “Principle of Consciousness”.
The room has comfortable armchairs, laptops, a movie screen and a projector for comfortable viewing of cartoons. And also sets of pencils and paints, brushes and magnetic boards for drawing.
“We treat about half a thousand children every week, and some of them undergo long-term treatment. In this multifunctional room, they can separate themselves from the hospital space and get more positive emotions and motivation for recovery,” says Zoryana Ivanyuk, medical director of St. Nicholas Hospital.
We will remind you that a network of mental health centers is being developed in Lviv, so that everyone who needs it can receive quality help from specialists in comfortable conditions. As of now, such centers are already operating: in the 5th hospital on the street Chuprinka, in the 5th polyclinic on the street. Vyhovsky, in the 2nd polyclinic on the street Simonenka, in the 1st Polyclinic on St. Rymlyanina, in the Polyclinic of the St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital on St. Orlyk and on the basis of the NEZLAMNI rehabilitation center on St. Mazepa
