At the Lviv Regional Clinical Perinatal Centre, a new direction has been launched — foetal treatment, which allows surgeries to be performed on children even before birth. This is a unique opportunity where doctors accompany the infant even before its first breath: they observe, diagnose, and, if necessary, treat in the mother’s womb.
For this purpose, a separate spacious modern operating theatre has been opened at the facility. Equipment for foetal surgery was purchased with funds from the regional budget: an endoscopic stand, two fetoscopes with working channels, and other necessary instruments. In total, almost 20 million hryvnias were allocated for this.
From the Kozytskyi Charity Fund, the Centre received a modern laser worth about 10 million UAH for the correction of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, which occurs in multiple pregnancies.
The Centre’s medics recently trained at the foetal medicine clinic of the Medical University of Warsaw. Ahead lies practice in leading clinics in Spain, Poland, and the USA, so that this direction develops in Lviv region as daily assistance.
