A new inpatient paediatric palliative care ward for the youngest patients has opened at the municipal non-profit enterprise of the Lviv Regional Council “Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre”. The ward provides 9 beds for children aged from three months to six years with incurable illnesses, and all places are currently occupied.
The ward has been equipped with a barrier-free environment and modern rooms, and offers round-the-clock medical supervision and individual nutrition for each child. Care is provided by a multidisciplinary team: doctors, nurses, a psychologist, a physical therapist and an occupational therapist, all of whom have undergone specialised training in palliative care.
“Our task is to do everything possible so that even in the most difficult period of life, a child feels as comfortable as possible and lives with dignity,” the Centre notes.
The ward was created in accordance with the requirements of the National Health Service of Ukraine. Renovation works and the fitting out of the premises were financed with funds earned by the facility through its cooperation with the NHSU.
