Successful surgery at Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital Saves Life of 63-Year-Old Patient with Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
The surgery lasted about six hours.
Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital successfully performed a complex simultaneous operation on a patient with an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
The patient, 63-year-old Yaroslav from Vinnytsia, had a complicated clinical history, including several previous surgeries, including heart and abdominal operations. The surgery, which lasted about six hours, was performed by a team of experienced specialists at Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital.
The patient’s wife, Valentyna Bygovska, shared her impressions.
“My husband Yaroslav is not an easy patient, he has already had several complicated surgeries, so the doctors faced many challenges. He has had the aneurysm for seven years, but in the last six months it has started to grow intensively. “Your doctors have golden hands and kind hearts, they gave my Yaroslav the opportunity to live!” said Valentyna.
Dr Borys Dyachyshyn, who led the surgical team, noted that the patient was diagnosed with viral covid pneumonia during the preparation phase, so the operation was postponed for a week.
“The postoperative period was complicated by bilateral viral pneumonia, but thanks to antiviral therapy and the team’s coordinated work, we got good results,” the doctor added.
The surgery was simultaneous: the doctors performed resection of a large abdominal aortic aneurysm and bifurcation prosthetics, as well as restored the anterior abdominal wall using a 40 x 40 cm allograft.
The surgical team, which included vascular surgeons Borys Dyachyshyn and Gleb Orel, anaesthetist Natalia Dyachyshyn, cadet Oleg Direy, anaesthetist Olesya Gnatyshyn and operating nurse Nadiia Kuleba, ensured the successful completion of the operation.
The doctors have already encountered similar complicated cases in their practice, in particular, they have operated on patients from Ternopil, Rivne and Vinnytsia. Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital continues to provide high-quality and highly specialised medical care to patients from different regions of Ukraine.
“Our patient is already at home, we are glad that everything went well! We are open 24/7 to provide highly specialised medical care to our people,” the doctors said.
