Over the past 16 weeks, 233 injured users of electric scooters have sought treatment at medical facilities in Lviv. This was reported by the Lviv City Council, which highlighted the growing number of such incidents.
Among those injured are 115 children and 118 adults. Some people sought help independently, while others were taken to hospital by emergency medical service teams.
Hospitalisation was required for 69 children and 3 adults; the remainder received the necessary care on an outpatient basis.
Doctors emphasise that a significant proportion of injuries could have been avoided if safety rules had been followed: wearing a helmet and other protective equipment, as well as maintaining sensible speeds and observing the Highway Code. They urge particular attention to children’s safety and advise against allowing them to ride electric scooters without adult supervision.
Earlier, Lviv tightened the rules for using electric scooters and other micromobility devices. Key requirements include a minimum user age of 16, mandatory wearing of a protective helmet, a speed limit of 15 km/h in potentially hazardous areas, and regulated parking.
City officials explain that these additional safety measures were introduced precisely because of the rising number of injuries associated with the use of electric scooters, particularly among children.
