Rehabilitation Department at Sheptytsky Hospital: New Opportunities for Patients
On April 8, a new rehabilitation department began operations at Sheptytsky City Hospital. Currently, 12 patients are undergoing rehabilitation here, most of whom are recovering from strokes.
Conditions and Contraindications for Rehabilitation
It should be noted that physical rehabilitation can only be sought with a referral from a specialized doctor. Furthermore, there is a list of contraindications under which rehabilitation is not conducted, stated department head Tetyana Zhdan. These include:
- acute infectious diseases,
- active stage of all forms of tuberculosis,
- purulent skin diseases,
- thyroid diseases,
- liver and pancreatic failure,
- cardiovascular diseases,
- fever or subfebrile temperature of unknown origin,
- bleeding,
- acute deep vein thrombosis of the lower limbs.
Therefore, a patient must first undergo necessary treatment, stabilize their condition, and only then seek rehabilitation.
The Rehabilitation Process and Restrictions
It is important for patients and their relatives to understand that rehabilitation is primarily about physical activity. To restore body functions or skills lost due to illness or injury, it is necessary to work with a rehabilitation specialist for three hours daily. The most important thing is that the patient must hear, understand, and follow the specialist’s instructions. Therefore, people with mental illnesses or cognitive impairments cannot undergo rehabilitation in this department, emphasized Tetyana Zhdan.
It is worth noting that a patient is entitled to inpatient rehabilitation only twice a year. At the same time, the hospital is working towards implementing outpatient rehabilitation by the end of the year, where the patient attends sessions at specified times.
