In September–October 2026, a spring campaign of oral immunisation of wild carnivorous animals is planned. The event is being organised in accordance with the requirements of the Law of Ukraine of 24.02.2022 No. 2102-IX “On Approval of the Decree of the President of Ukraine ‘On the Introduction of Martial Law in Ukraine'”.
The vaccination will cover an area of 13.84 thousand km². The vaccine will be distributed by ground application, meaning that special vaccine baits in the form of briquettes will be laid out in places where wild animals are found.
The vaccine is safe for humans, animals and the environment. It is a small nutritious briquette made of meat and bone meal, the smell of which attracts wild animals. Inside the briquette there is a jelly-like capsule containing the rabies virus antigen. After an animal eats such a bait, immunity develops in about 21 days and lasts for at least one year.
While walking in forests or fields, people may come across such briquettes. In this case, they should not be picked up, damaged or moved elsewhere. The bait is intended exclusively for wild animals and must remain where it has been placed in order to preserve its attractiveness and the effectiveness of the vaccination.
