A challenging situation arose for 14-year-old Sophia from Volyn when her life became threatened due to kidney issues. Her father, a serviceman, decided not to wait and offered to help by donating his organ, returning from combat positions in Donetsk region. This decision gave the girl a new chance at life.
Since birth, Sophia had a complex congenital condition. The deterioration of her health, fatigue, weakness, and critical creatinine levels proved decisive for her hospitalisation, where immediate help was needed.
The head of the nephrology clinic, Roman Andrunyevich, made the decision to start haemodialysis. Simultaneously, the medical team suggested adding the child to the waiting list for a donor kidney. However, her father decided to become the donor himself.
Two months after the transplant, Sophia feels great, actively engages in creative activities, and enjoys her new life. She is genuinely grateful to her father, who was not afraid of the risks and took responsibility for his daughter’s health.
