Specialists managed to correct such deformations for the first time in Ukraine.
Specialists of the Interregional Center for Children’s Maxillofacial Surgery together with LEAP Global Missions and surgeon Craig Hobar operated on children with facial defects. For the first time in Ukraine, specialists managed to correct severe deformities of the upper jaw.
Deformations were formed as a result of too early and traumatic surgical interventions on the palate due to their cleft (“cleft palate”) and led not only to anatomical and aesthetic defects, but also to disruption of vital functions – swallowing, eating, breathing, speech.
Therefore, together with the world’s leading orthodontist, Cheryl Anderson-Cermin, planning and computer modeling of the elimination of the problem were carried out. Later, an osteotomy was performed with distraction of the upper jaw.
