The Momentum Wheels for Humanity team is convinced that everyone who needs assistive devices has the right and should be able to receive rehabilitation aids without long waits, without wasting time on various bureaucratic processes. That is why, in cooperation with the international organization Christian Blind Mission (CBM) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Hub of Assistive Technologies is opening in Lviv.
In cooperation with partner health care institutions, the Hub will provide free of charge means to improve mobility and personal care of people who need them in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, and Volyn regions, as well as the city of Kyiv. Here you will be able to get wheelchairs, canes, walkers, as well as various self-service tools.
In general, by the end of 2024, the Hub of assistive technologies will provide free rehabilitation aids to at least 2,500 Ukrainians.
What is unique is that the Hub team will provide patients with a full cycle of providing rehabilitation aids, which includes: selection of the device, its adjustment, training in the use of the device and further monitoring of its use. In addition to providing auxiliary means, the Hub will function as a training center for specialists in the field of health care, social protection and other participants who need modern knowledge in this field. Thematic educational events, trainings, practical classes and meetings with Ukrainian and foreign specialists will take place here.

Momentum Wheels for Humanity is an international non-governmental organization working to create and strengthen rehabilitation services that include the provision of Assistive Technology (AT) in the health care system through training and capacity building of professionals, development of policies and standards, and supply and distribution of wheelchairs wheels and other equipment that helps to improve the quality of life.
In Ukraine, the organization started working in 2002, and after the start of the war in 2014, it strengthened its activities. From 2015 to 2019, the organization trained 351 rehabilitation specialists in various regions of Ukraine, including doctors and physical therapists, in such areas as rehabilitation of neurological conditions in adults and children, neurogenic treatment of the urinary bladder in people with spinal cord injury, multidisciplinary rehabilitation and provision AT.
The First Territorial Medical Association of Lviv and the UNBROKEN Rehabilitation Center are key partners of Momentum Wheels for Humanity in Lviv. Momentum will create and equip a specialized department for people with spinal cord injuries, organize several weeks of training for the team at the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in the USA, and equip the assistive technology office with equipment and assistive devices. Currently, Momentum specialists supervise TMO rehabilitation specialists, have already conducted a number of trainings on the peculiarities of providing rehabilitation services in accordance with international standards. An educational trip to Norway was also held in April. In total, the cost of supporting UNBROKEN will be about 2 million US dollars.
