30-year-old Yuliia Skochelias from Lviv region successfully gave birth to a daughter naturally, despite a pronounced tendency to develop keloid scars. The girl, named Yasmina, was born in Lviv weighing 4 kg 370 g and measuring 56 cm in length.
The birth took place at the Mother and Child Clinic of the University Hospital. It was attended by obstetrician-gynaecologist Bohdan Hrytsyshyn. The medical team took into account the particularities of Yuliia’s body – she can develop keloid scars even after minor skin injuries, which created a risk of a pronounced scar in the event of a caesarean section.
According to the doctor, the team carefully assessed the possibility of a vaginal birth, taking into consideration both her tendency to scarring and the baby’s considerable weight. Yuliia was admitted to the clinic at 40 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy, and just a few hours later she gave birth to her daughter. Despite a challenging labour and the baby’s weight of more than four kilograms, the woman managed without surgical intervention.
Yuliia says she was determined to give birth naturally in order to avoid additional problems with scarring. She notes the support of the medical team and the presence of her husband, who was with her in the delivery room. After birth, Yasmina scored 8 on the Apgar scale and is now staying with her mother in a shared room.
The woman is satisfied with her birth experience and the attitude of the clinic’s staff, and recommends this facility to other expectant mothers. The clinic emphasises that it takes great care in choosing the mode of delivery, especially when it comes to patients with an increased risk of complicated scarring.
