On Thursday, 1 October, a farewell ceremony will be held in Lviv for servicemen Roman Dem’ianovskyi, Vladyslav Yurkevych and Anton Tkachenko, who were killed defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities are calling on Lviv residents and visitors to join the ceremony and to refrain from entertainment during this time.
The funeral rite will be held at 12:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. After this, at approximately 12:30, a citywide farewell ceremony will begin on Rynok Square. The defenders will be buried in the Field of Honourable Burials No. 87 at Lychakiv Cemetery on Pasichna Street.
Roman Dem’ianovskyi (22.03.1981 — 28.08.2024) was born in the village of Hrozovo in Lviv region. He graduated from the local general secondary education institution and qualified as a fifth-class crane operator and an electric and gas welder at the vocational institution Turka Vocational College. He completed compulsory military service. After that, he worked in the field of installation and repair and restoration works and ran his own business.
His family recall that Roman was cheerful, determined and caring, and devoted a lot of time to his family. He was passionate about hunting, loved his work and cooking, and especially enjoyed spending time outdoors with his loved ones. From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he joined the defence of Ukraine. He served in the Donetsk sector with the 53rd Separate Reconnaissance Battalion of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was awarded the medal “War Veteran”. Roman Dem’ianovskyi is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter, a brother, a sister with her family and other relatives.
Vladyslav Yurkevych (26.04.1979 — 17.07.2026) was a Lviv resident. He studied at the municipal institution of the Lviv Regional Council Vynnyky Academic Lyceum named after Ivan Ohienko, and later at Secondary School No. 42 in Lviv. He obtained his qualification as a carpenter-builder at the state vocational institution Lviv Higher Vocational School of Design and Construction. He worked in the construction sector in private companies.
According to his family, Vladyslav was distinguished by his kindness, sincerity and openness, had a strong character and was always ready to support his loved ones. He approached any task responsibly and always saw it through. He loved sport, nature and travelling. In 2026 he joined the defence of Ukraine, fighting in the Donetsk sector as part of the 125th Separate Heavy Mechanised Brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Vladyslav Yurkevych is survived by two sons, his wife, brothers, sisters, relatives and friends.
Anton Tkachenko (29.12.1985 — 26.09.2026) was born in Donetsk. He studied at Gymnasium No. 92 in the city, as well as at the municipal institution Complex Children and Youth Sports School No. 4 of Mariupol City Council in Donetsk region. He received higher education at the Donetsk State Institute of Health, Physical Education and Sport at the National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine, where he qualified as a coach and teacher.
He worked professionally as a massage therapist and rehabilitation specialist. His family say that Anton was courageous, reliable and caring, a devoted husband and father. He actively supported his loved ones and helped others, in particular by working on the rehabilitation of servicemen. He held the title of Master of Sport in Greco-Roman wrestling and loved sport, cycling, playing basketball and backgammon.
In 2025 Anton took up arms to defend Ukraine from the Russian invasion. He served in the Donetsk sector with the 24th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after King Danylo of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is survived by his wife, daughter, father, brothers and other relatives.
