On Tuesday, 22 September, a city farewell ceremony will be held in Lviv for four servicemen who gave their lives defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. Lviv will bid farewell to Vitalii Myhal, Oleksandr Bieloshenko, Lev Malenkov and Dmytro Stanytskyi. The city authorities have called on residents and visitors of Lviv to join the farewell and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.
The funeral service will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At approximately 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. Afterwards, Vitalii Myhal will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery in the Field of Honourable Burials No. 87, and Oleksandr Bieloshenko, Lev Malenkov and Dmytro Stanytskyi will be buried at Holosko Cemetery.
Vitalii Myhal (24.07.1992 — 20.11.2023) was a native of Lviv. He studied at Secondary General Education School No. 99 in Lviv, later qualifying as a customs officer at the Lviv Cooperative Vocational College of Economics and Law. He then continued his studies at one of Lviv’s universities and obtained a higher education. He worked in sales for private companies. His family remember him as a cheerful, sociable and caring person who was interested in history and loved books and sport, particularly swimming and football. In 2023 he joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in the Zaporizhzhia sector as part of the 71st Separate Airmobile Brigade of the Air Assault Forces. Vitalii Myhal is survived by his parents, two sisters, godparents, close friends and other relatives.
Oleksandr Bieloshenko (10.06.1994 — 20.08.2026) was born in Donetsk. He completed his general secondary education in Donetsk region. According to his family, he was a kind, positive and optimistic person who loved outdoor activities and tried to spend his time in a meaningful way. In 2025 he took up arms to defend Ukraine from the Russian invasion, serving in the Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk sectors as part of the 210th Separate Special Battalion “Berlingo” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Oleksandr Bieloshenko is survived by two daughters.
Lev Malenkov (05.03.1974 — 18.09.2026) came from Stryi in Lviv region. He studied at the local general secondary school and obtained his higher education at the Lviv Polytechnic National University. He worked in information technology for private companies. His relatives describe him as responsible, well-mannered, honest and self-possessed, someone who always kept his word and treated people with respect. He was passionate about computer technology and loved spending time in nature. In 2026 he joined the defence of Ukraine against the Russian occupiers, serving in the Southern-Slobozhanskyi sector as part of the 1st Donetsk Border Detachment “Hart” of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. Lev Malenkov is survived by his friends and comrades-in-arms.
Dmytro Stanytskyi (30.09.1994 — 20.09.2026) was a native of Lviv. He studied at Secondary General Education School No. 77 in Lviv with an enhanced focus on economics and management, and later at the Ukrainian Academy of Printing. He worked in the construction sector for private companies. His family say he was intelligent, cheerful, friendly and responsible, always ready to help others. He was keen on sport, particularly athletics and parkour, took part in competitions, and loved cooking and spending time in the mountains.
With the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Dmytro took up the defence of Ukraine. He served in the Donetsk and Southern-Slobozhanskyi sectors as part of the 125th Separate Heavy Mechanised Brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. For his service he was awarded the medal “War Veteran”. Dmytro Stanytskyi is survived by his mother, sister and family.
