
Sokal region mourns again as another brave Ukrainian defender has fallen. Andriy Volodymyrovych Hnatyuk, a 32-year-old resident of Sokal born in 1992, died while performing his military duties on the frontline.
He began his education at Sokal Secondary School No. 4 and later graduated as a radio communication specialist from a local college. Since 2014, he served in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), dedicating many years to the defense of Ukraine.
During the full-scale invasion, Andriy served with the 3rd Assault Brigade. In February 2025, he came home on a short leave, during which he married his beloved Ruslana. Shortly after the wedding, he returned to the front lines.
Andriy’s last mission before his next scheduled leave took place on October 11. He had been eagerly waiting to return home. Unfortunately, on October 14, 2025, while carrying out a combat assignment near Kramatorsk, he was killed in action.
His memory lives on in the hearts of his wife Ruslana, parents Oksana and Volodymyr, brother Vitaliy, grandmother Hanna, and his comrades-in-arms, as well as the entire Sokal community.
The farewell ceremony will be held on October 23 at 2:00 PM near the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Sokal. A memorial service and burial will follow. Andriy Hnatyuk will be laid to rest on the Alley of Glory in his hometown.
