This year, Lviv turns 768 years old.
In the center of the city, on Rynok Square, celebrations were held on the occasion of the 768th anniversary of the founding of Lviv. The city flag was solemnly raised near the town hall, and the participants of the event jointly performed the National Anthem of Ukraine and observed a moment of silence in memory of those who died in the war.
After that, the audience was presented with an exposition of the battle flags of the departments that take a direct part in the fight against the Russian aggressor. The exposition began with the ceremonial hoisting of the State Flag of Ukraine, and then at the entrance to the town hall, the battle flags of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service, the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service, the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Police, and the Airborne Assault Forces were placed. The event was attended by representatives of the mentioned departments, regional and city authorities, residents of Lviv, honorary citizen of Lviv Myroslav Marynovych.
“Lviv is a city that has carried the spirit of royal majesty and nobility through many centuries. A city that is hospitable to friends and extremely dangerous to enemies. The history of the city is worthless without those who create it – without the residents. Dear residents of Lviv, you create a unique atmosphere of coziness and comfort in Lviv. Unfortunately, for the eleventh year in a row, we are celebrating City Day in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Behind me are the battle flags of the military units of the Defense Forces. It is in them that thousands of Ukrainians and thousands of Lviv citizens are currently serving, who are bravely and honorably repulsing the enemy. Unfortunately, at a great price. I am sincerely convinced that after our victory, here on Rynok Square, we will celebrate the City Day with our soldiers who will return from the front. I sincerely wish us Victory! Glory to the city of Lviv! Glory to the Armed Forces! Glory to Ukraine!” – noted the deputy head of Lviv OVA Andriy Godyk.
The commemoration ended with the ceremonial marching of the company of the honor guard of the National Academy of Ground Forces named after Petro Sahaidachny.
