On Monday, 10 August, Lviv will bid farewell to three servicemen — Ivan Lozovyi, Oleh Tyruz and Oleksandr Marushchak, who were killed defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities are calling on residents and visitors to join the farewell ceremony and at this time to refrain from entertainment activities.
The funeral service will take place at the Garrison Church of Sts Apostles Peter and Paul and will begin at 11:00. At approximately 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square. After this, the soldiers will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery, in the field of honorary burials No.87 on Pasichna Street.
Ivan Lozovyi
Ivan Lozovyi (08.02.1971 — 01.08.2026) was a native of Lviv. He studied at Secondary School No.32 in Lviv, later qualifying as a fitter of mechanical assembly works at the state vocational and technical educational institution “Interregional Higher Vocational College of Motor Transport and Construction”. He completed compulsory military service.
He worked as a driver at LLC “Fiakr-Lviv”, later at JSC “Vydavnytstvo “Vilna Ukraina””, and was also engaged in private transport services. In his free time, he enjoyed repairing vehicles and fishing. His family remember him as a kind, sincere, cheerful and sociable person with a positive outlook on life.
After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, he took up arms to defend Ukraine. He served in the Mykolaiv sector with the 63rd Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and later fought in the Northern Slobozhanskyi and Donetsk sectors with the 44th Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was awarded the medal “War Veteran”.
Ivan Lozovyi is survived by his mother, his brother and sister-in-law, his nephews, his daughter, his son-in-law and his granddaughter.
Oleh Tyruz
Oleh Tyruz (25.04.1988 — 30.07.2026) was born in Lviv. He studied at Lviv Secondary School I–III Degrees No.82, and later qualified as a car repair mechanic at the state educational institution “Lviv Higher Vocational Polytechnic College”. He completed compulsory military service.
According to his family, Oleh was calm under stress, sociable, polite and sincere; he easily found common ground with people and stood out for his goodwill. He enjoyed fishing and was interested in cars.
In 2024, he joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, defending the country from the Russian invasion. He served in the Southern Slobozhanskyi and Zaporizhzhia sectors with the 61st Separate Mechanised Steppe Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was awarded the decoration of the brigade commander — the “Cross of Valour”, 3rd Class.
Oleh Tyruz is survived by his parents, his sister and his wider family.
Oleksandr Marushchak
Oleksandr Marushchak (15.10.1987 — 08.08.2026) was a native of Lviv. He graduated from Lviv Secondary School I–III Degrees No.43, studied at the National University “Lviv Polytechnic”, as well as at the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy.
His family say that Oleksandr greatly valued friendship, was a loyal comrade and was always ready to support his brothers-in-arms. They describe him as a kind, sincere, sociable and cheerful person with an optimistic outlook on life. He was actively involved in sport, loved running, took part in competitions, and was passionate about skydiving. He was very fond of children, reacted sharply to injustice and strove for truth. He dreamed of becoming a professional soldier and sincerely loved his Homeland.
In 2013, he signed a contract with the 80th Separate Air Assault Galician Brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He took part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) and the Joint Forces Operation as part of the 80th Separate Air Assault Galician Brigade and the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Zakarpattia Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
With the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression, he took part in the defence of Kyiv, and later continued his service in the Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk sectors with the 19th Missile Brigade “St. Barbara” of the Missile Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since 2025, he had been serving in the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
For his service, Oleksandr Marushchak was awarded the Order of Danylo Halytskyi, the badge “ATO Participant”, the medal “For Participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation”, the medal “War Veteran” and other departmental awards.
Oleksandr Marushchak is survived by his wife, his daughter, his parents and his wider family.
