The Sokal region is mourning another painful loss. Ukrainian defender Mykhailo Ivanovych Khomiak, born on November 20, 1981, in the city of Sokal, has been confirmed dead.
The Life of Mykhailo Khomiak
Mykhailo spent his childhood and teenage years in his hometown of Sokal. After graduating from Sokal Secondary School No. 4, he continued his education at a local vocational school, where he qualified as an electric welder.
From 1999 to 2001, Mykhailo completed military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He later lived and worked in Lutsk for some time. After returning to Sokal, he was employed in various occupations.
On April 25, 2024, Mykhailo Khomiak was mobilized and assigned to military unit A4718. He courageously carried out his military duties and defended Ukraine’s freedom, independence, and territorial integrity in the Donetsk sector.
Death and Identification of the Soldier
According to an official notification, Mykhailo Khomiak was killed on August 11, 2024, while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Kremiane in the Korenevsky District of Kursk Oblast, Russian Federation.
For a long time, the serviceman was listed as missing in action. On July 23, 2026, the body of the fallen Ukrainian defender was identified.
Mykhailo Khomiak is survived by:
- his mother, Anastasiia;
- his sister, Mariia;
- his nephew, Illia.
The Sokal City Council will provide further information regarding the arrival of the soldier’s body and the funeral ceremony.
