Today, the community of Belz bid a sorrowful farewell to its fallen defender — Junior Sergeant Roman Vyacheslavovych Hryhorenko, who died protecting Ukraine.
A solemn procession moved through the villages of the community, giving everyone the chance to pay their final respects. In his native village of Piddubne, Roman was greeted by fellow villagers, friends from his hometown Lopavshe (Demydiv community), and his comrades-in-arms.
Tears, silence, and unbearable grief marked this final journey. The most heart-wrenching moment belonged to his family: his mother whispered through her tears, “Wake up, son… come home… you’re home now…” His wife Uliana and their two children — daughter Daryna and son Zakhar — were overwhelmed with pain. His elderly father, leaning on a cane, looked up to the sky, as if seeking the answer to a single aching question: “Why my son?..”
Among prayers and silence, the most difficult moment came — the final goodbye. Roman was laid to rest with military honors, as a true Hero of Ukraine who gave his life for the nation’s freedom.
His loss left a deep wound not only in the hearts of his loved ones but in the entire Belz community.
The Belz City Council extends its sincere condolences to Roman’s family, close ones, and brothers-in-arms. Together, we bow our heads in mourning and honor the memory of this brave defender.
🕯️ Eternal memory to Roman Hryhorenko. Heroes never die.
