In the town of Sokal, serviceman Vasyl Kovalchuk, born in 1980, has died. This was reported by Sokal Town Council.
Vasyl Vasylovych Kovalchuk was born on 4 January 1980 in the village of Rozhzhaliv in Lviv region. He studied at Rozhzhaliv school, after which he worked in various jobs. He was married and raised two sons, Vadym and Roman.
In 2023 he was called up for military service. He served as a radio-telephone operator in military unit T 4741 and took part in combat operations near Kramatorsk.
In 2025 the serviceman fell ill. According to Sokal Town Council, he was unable to overcome a serious illness and died on 19 August 2026.
He is mourned by his mother Olha, his sister Vira with her family, his brother Roman with his family, as well as his sons Vadym and Roman.
The serviceman’s funeral will take place at the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Sokal. The funeral service will begin at 10:30.
