The Sokal community is mourning another loss. Ukrainian defender Oleksandr Volodymyrovych Hnatiuk died on June 17, 2026.
Oleksandr Hnatiuk was born on November 30, 1966, in Sokal. During his childhood, he moved with his family to the Kherson region because of health issues. He spent most of his life in the settlement of Hornostaivka.
Oleksandr Hnatiuk’s military service
On March 23, 2023, Oleksandr joined the defence of Ukraine and began serving in military unit A5509. He carried out his duties in the Huliaipole sector.
The serviceman was discharged for health reasons on August 6, 2024.
In 2025, Oleksandr Hnatiuk returned to his native city of Sokal, where he found employment at the municipal company Sokalzhytlokomunservis.
After completing his military service, the defender’s health continued to deteriorate. Oleksandr Hnatiuk died on June 17, 2026.
Funeral arrangements
The funeral service will take place on June 18 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul.
