The restoration of the villa on Melnyka Street in Lviv, known as Villa ‘Sonechko’, began two years after it was damaged during shelling on 4th September 2024. This early 20th-century architectural monument was commissioned by Ludwik Heller, the then director of the city theatre.
To initiate the restoration work, numerous procedures had to be undertaken, and all the necessary documents acquired. The tender for the work was not held until October 2025. The private enterprise ‘Volodar-Market‘ won the contract and is currently erecting scaffolding and repairing the chimneys.
Historically, the villa is distinguished by five decorative chimneys built from ceramic bricks. During the shelling, their structure was displaced, compromising their integrity. Scaffolding has now been set up to dismantle the damaged bricks and inject strengthening mortar into the joints.
The damage from the attack was significant: 8 people lost their lives, including 1 child, 71 required medical assistance, and 189 buildings were affected, including Villa ‘Sonechko’.
