The camp was organized in the village of Sprynia, in the Sambir district of Lviv Oblast, from July 10 to 21. It was attended by 65 boys and girls aged 11 to 17.
At the “Shadow of the Forest” camp, the scouts immersed themselves in the world of Ukrainian mythology, learned what our ancestors believed in and what their perceptions of the world were. The participants also had acting classes, talks about self-development, how to communicate, implement projects, and generate ideas. There was also a lot of practical scouting: how to build camp facilities, cook over a fire, make a fire, tie knots, and more. In their leisure time, the Plast members enjoyed a fire show, archery, and model airplane modeling.
The event was organized by the Department of Youth and Sports of the Lviv Regional State Administration, the Lviv Regional Plast Center, and the Lviv Plast District.
Plast is a powerful organization that educates nationally conscious, active youth. For more than a hundred years, Plast has been a major center that preserves and honors our culture, traditions and language, and in times of war, Plast members were among the first to join the army and defend our statehood. One of the integral elements of the Plast education system is training and camps.
“The location is at the foot of the Carpathians, near the village of Sprynia, where exactly 80 years ago the Ukrainian Main Liberation Council, also called the insurgent or underground parliament, was founded.
The greatest value of the UHVR was that it led the actions of the warring Ukraine in World War II from the moment of its formation. It found itself in extremely difficult conditions when the German-Soviet front was moving to the West. I believe that such places, and this one in particular, should be not only a place of national memory, but also a place of national pilgrimage, especially when it comes to the younger generation,” says Roman Khimyak, head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
