“Cyberattacks began to capture European cities, whose leaders visited Lviv,” – A. Moskalenko

A large-scale cyber attack on the management services of the Lviv City Council took place last Friday. Andriy Moskalenko, First Deputy Mayor of Lviv, spoke today about the consequences of the attack and the functioning of the city.

“Since February 24, we have recorded more than 100 different attacks on the Internet network and services of the Lviv City Council by Russia. All of them were successfully blocked and had no consequences. Instead, what happened on May 13 has been going on for a long time, and the main task was to destroy the city government system and steal various working data. A lot of effort and money has been invested in this.

Thank you to our services, the Security Service of Ukraine, the cyber police, the IT cluster, which managed to respond quickly enough to this threat. As a result, the city continues to operate, finding a number of alternative solutions to ensure the usual processes. There is a telephone number of the Hotline under the changed number – 2975911, CNAPs, large communal enterprises work. We are still restoring the work of some services. We must adhere to security protocols. It is likely that this attack will be repeated, as a result of which part of the data was stolen and part of the services were damaged. We are currently working in accordance with SBU protocols, and together with IT companies we are working on additional protection.

I want to note that as of today, this was the most powerful attack on the Lviv City Council since independence, and in Ukraine in general. We see that Russia is waging war not only with tanks, but also because of data theft, cyberattacks, and the destruction of established systems. Today I also talked to representatives of European cities, whose mayors or their deputies came to Lviv, so they also began to record significant cyber attacks on their cities over the past three weeks, “said Andriy Moskalenko.

According to him, given the consequences of the cyber attack, the city will increase the level of security of its systems. And after the final report of the relevant certified services will be able to say the extent of the damage.
