Veronitsa from Ugledar is eleven today. A year ago, she had little chance to live, smile and read her favorite adventure books, because her life was hanging in the balance. Today she goes to school, enjoys life and had one dream that came true.
“I really miss Ugledar, I had everything there. I constantly read news about my hometown, and for a year I had one dream – to hug a soldier who defended Ugledar. I want to see him and thank him,” says Veronika Kulikova.
“We were looking for a military man who defended Ugledar for a long time. Our Veronika’s dream is very noble, and it was important for us to realize it. Because there is a lot of meaning in this dream and it is not childish at all. That’s why I came up with the idea of turning to the UNBROKEN rehabilitation center, because there, like nowhere else, they know the military and their stories well, besides, the team of the center is well acquainted with our Veronika, because she underwent a long rehabilitation there, she was operated on and treated there. They immediately went to meet us in order to give her such a gift on the day of the child’s birthday,” says the acting director. Volodymyr Frydrak, head of the “Service for Children” department of the LMR.
The First Medical Association and Rehabilitation Center UNBROKEN immediately responded to the request of the Children’s Service. The team of the rehabilitation center organized a real dream come true holiday for the girl.
“Veronika also dreamed of equestrian sports, she told our rehabilitator a lot about it during classes. We did not forget this and organized a gift for her – a horse ride and a certificate for practicing this sport. Of course, the doctors and rehabilitators who treated and helped her overcome all obstacles wanted to see and hug her. It is so important to see what she has become over this year, because we all know what she was like, and how she, together with the doctors and our team, went step by step towards recovery,” says the UNBROKEN rehabilitation center ).
Veronika met with a military man who defended Vugledar. The defender’s name is Oleksiy, he is from the Kherson region. He lost his leg during the hostilities in Ugledar, so he is currently preparing for prosthetics at the NEZLAMNI center in Lviv.
“Boronyv Vugledar in January, we were then transferred to the Donetsk direction. It was so nice to fulfill the dream of a girl whose city was defended, he immediately agreed. Like her, I am filled with emotions,” the soldier shared.
“I am happy, this is the best birthday in my life. My dream has come true, and not the only one. I am so glad to meet the one who won back my native city. He is cool. Now I have one more dream: to return to my hometown – peaceful and free,” says Veronika Kulikova.
