In Lviv region, drink-driving motorcyclist causes fatal road accident

In one of the villages of Lviv district on 7 July at around 16:50, a fatal road traffic collision occurred involving a Grader 250 motorcycle and a VAZ 21134 car. The incident was reported by the Lviv region police.

According to preliminary information, a 22-year-old local resident, while riding the motorcycle, lost control, drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a car driven by his 45-year-old fellow villager.

As a result of the collision, the motorcycle passenger, a 25-year-old resident of the district, sustained bodily injuries from which he died at the scene.

Law enforcement officers established that at the time of the collision the motorcyclist was in a state of alcoholic intoxication. He was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Investigators from the department for the investigation of transport-related offences of the investigative division of the Lviv region police have opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of road traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by persons driving vehicles while intoxicated). The article provides for a term of imprisonment from five to ten years with disqualification from driving vehicles for the same period.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and a decision is being made on notifying the detainee that he is suspected of committing a criminal offence.
