
In the Lviv region, three residents of Sheptytskyi are to stand trial, accused of a series of thefts of cash from local residents’ cars committed in February 2026. According to the investigation, they seized more than 650,000 hryvnias.
Law enforcement officers established that a 44-year-old man from Sheptytskyi, who had previous convictions, together with two accomplices aged 19 and 25, using gloves, hoods and special masking equipment, watched car owners and then broke into the vehicles.
On 3 February at about 17:30 on Ivasyuka Street in Sheptytskyi, the accused smashed a window in a BMW parked near a house and stole 500,000 hryvnias from the interior, after which they fled the scene.
On 27 February at about 11:35, according to the investigation, the perpetrators used a picked key to gain access to an Infiniti parked on Khmelnytskoho Street in Sheptytskyi and stole US dollars and Moldovan lei totalling almost 11,000 hryvnias. That same day at about 13:20 they opened a Mercedes-Benz GLS 400 in a similar way on Shevchenka Avenue in Sheptytskyi and took 140,500 hryvnias from it.
During operational measures, law enforcement officers established the whereabouts of the suspects and detained them under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation, initiated under Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (theft committed on an especially large scale or by an organised group), has been completed, and the indictment has been sent to court. The sanction of this article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.
The perpetrators were exposed by criminal police operatives, investigators and staff from other units of the Sheptytskyi District Police Department under the procedural guidance of the Sheptytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office, the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported.
