In Lviv region, man sentenced to 15 years in prison for state treason

In Lviv region, a 59-year-old resident of Brody has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of all property, having been found guilty of state treason under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This was reported by prosecutors of the Zolochiv District Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the prosecution, in March last year the man was recruited by officers of the FSB of the Russian Federation. Due to his active pro-Russian stance, he agreed to cooperate and began carrying out tasks assigned by representatives of the aggressor state.

The convicted man marked on maps the coordinates of the movement of aircraft, the personnel of an airbase and military infrastructure facilities in Lviv region. He used a mobile phone to film, and sent the materials obtained to his handler via the Telegram messenger. This information could have been used to prepare missile strikes.

In his correspondence with the FSB representative, the man stated that “there hasn’t been a single hit for the entire period of the special military operation” and agreed to install a camera in a forest with a view of military facilities, as well as to confirm strikes in the event of a missile attack.

At the end of May last year, he was detained in Lviv region under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation in the proceedings was carried out by the Main Investigation Department of the Security Service of Ukraine under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General. Until the verdict enters into legal force, the convicted man will remain in custody, and the verdict may be appealed in the appellate procedure.
