In the Lviv region, the pre-trial investigation has been completed in respect of a 20-year-old resident of the town of Sheptytskyi, who is accused of extorting money from an acquaintance. The indictment has been submitted to the court.
According to the investigation, over the course of a year, from May 2026 to June 2026, the suspect demanded from a 21-year-old resident of the district centre cash in the amount of 500 dollars and 5,000 hryvnias. The victim was subjected to psychological pressure and, in the event of refusal to hand over the money, was threatened with physical violence and the infliction of grievous bodily harm.
On 2 June, law enforcement officers detained the suspect under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine after he received part of the money he had demanded from the victim, in the amount of 5,000 hryvnias. The offender was exposed by criminal police operatives, investigators and staff of other units of the Sheptytskyi District Police Department under the procedural guidance of the Sheptytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office.
Criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (extortion). The offence with which the accused is charged carries a penalty of imprisonment for a term of seven to twelve years with confiscation of property.
