A court in Lviv region has chosen a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody without the right to bail for the driver suspected of causing a fatal road traffic collision in the town of Brody, Zolochiv district.
According to the investigation, the man was driving a car while under the influence of alcohol and caused a road traffic collision in which three underage female passengers were killed and another underage girl was injured.
The crash occurred on 20 July at around 01:55 on Bohuna Street in Brody. After the collision, the driver left the scene, but during urgent investigative and search measures police established his whereabouts and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators from the department for investigating criminal proceedings involving children of the investigative directorate of Lviv region police, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, have served the detainee with a notice of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of road safety rules or vehicle operation by persons driving vehicles while intoxicated).
The pre-trial investigation in this criminal proceeding is ongoing.
