Miner killed and another injured at Mezhyrichanska mine

At the Mezhyrichanska mine in Sheptytskyi, an accident occurred in which one miner was killed and another worker was injured. The incident took place yesterday at around 12:30.

According to preliminary information, while work was being carried out in one of the mine’s sections, there was a collapse of rock and concrete reinforcement at the location where the deceased was working. Colleagues who were nearby called rescuers and, before they arrived, tried on their own to clear the debris and free the victim.

The man could not be saved. He died from his injuries; the victim was a 37-year-old resident of the Sheptytskyi district. Separately, in another section of the mine, a 30-year-old miner was injured while working. He was taken to hospital, and doctors say there is no threat to his life.

Under the procedural guidance of the Sheptytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office, information has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of safety regulations during high-risk work, including violations that resulted in a person’s death.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Sheptytskyi District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.
