A tragic road traffic accident occurred in Brody, resulting in the death of a cyclist. The driver of an Audi A6, a 42-year-old local resident, while under the influence of alcohol, collided with a 62-year-old cyclist on Vakhovsky Street. Following the incident, the driver fled the scene.
As a result of the injuries sustained, the cyclist died at the scene. Police promptly located the driver and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The driver has been notified of suspicion of committing criminal offences under Part 3 of Article 286-1 and Part 1 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The maximum penalty facing the detainee is up to ten years’ imprisonment with the revocation of the right to drive vehicles for the same period. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the vehicle has been impounded at a special facility.
