In the city of Sheptytskyi on Taras Shevchenko Avenue, a 36-year-old resident of the Sheptytskyi district detonated a grenade during a conflict with passers-by. As a result of the explosion, no one was killed, but four people were injured.
The incident occurred on 26 September. An investigative and operational team and staff from other services of the Sheptytskyi District Police Department, as well as bomb disposal experts and officers from other units of the Lviv region police, were dispatched to the scene of the explosion.
Three women aged 17, 18 and 56 and a 26-year-old man, all local residents, sustained shrapnel wounds. The casualties were taken to hospital, where doctors provided them with medical assistance; their lives are not in danger.
Law enforcement officers established that the grenade had been detonated by a serviceman who was on leave. Police identified his whereabouts and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural guidance of the prosecution authorities, have opened criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (hooliganism). The sanction of the article provides for a punishment of imprisonment for a term of three to seven years. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court is soon to select a preventive measure for the detainee.
