In Sheptytskyi a crane lorry hit two people on a pedestrian crossing: one killed

In Sheptytskyi, on Stepan Bandera Street, a road traffic collision involving a crane lorry occurred, as a result of which a 45-year-old pedestrian was killed and another man was injured. This was reported under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The collision happened today at around 10:50. According to preliminary information, a 48-year-old crane lorry driver, whose vehicle belongs to the local water utility, ran into two men who were crossing the carriageway at an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing.

After the impact, the crane lorry dragged one of the victims, a 45-year-old local resident, several more metres forward. The man died at the scene from his injuries. His 48-year-old companion sustained a leg injury and was taken to hospital.

Law enforcement officers detained the crane lorry driver under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. During testing with a “Drager” device, he was found to show signs of alcohol intoxication – according to the device, his blood alcohol level was almost three times the legal limit.

Information about the incident has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations on the grounds of a breach of road traffic safety rules while under the influence of alcohol, which resulted in the victim’s death (Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). A decision is being made on notifying the driver of suspicion and choosing a preventive measure. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.
