In Sheptytsky, a couple will stand trial accused of defrauding wives of military personnel and embezzling over a million hryvnias. This was reported by MVS LVIV.
A 39-year-old resident of Sheptytsky and her 44-year-old husband, who previously had legal issues, promised their victims that they could produce documents to legally discharge their relatives from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (ZSU). In reality, they had no intention of doing so, and the money they received from the victims was misappropriated.
One of the victims handed over more than 700 thousand hryvnias, hoping to secure the release of her son. Another woman lost nearly 400 thousand hryvnias for the release of her brother, while another victim was defrauded of 43 thousand hryvnias to assist her partner.
The perpetrators were uncovered by operatives of the Lviv District Police Department under the procedural guidance of the Halytsky District Prosecutor’s Office. The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the indictment has been submitted for court consideration. The maximum punishment for the accused could be up to eight years in prison.
