In Sheptytskyi a mobile crane driver ran over pedestrians: one dead, one injured

In Sheptytskyi on Stepan Bandera Street there was a road traffic collision involving a mobile crane belonging to the local water utility, as a result of which one pedestrian died and another was injured. This was reported under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The collision occurred today at about 10:50. According to preliminary information, a 48-year-old mobile crane driver ran over two men who were crossing the carriageway at an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing.

After the impact, the mobile crane dragged one of the victims, a 45-year-old local resident, a few more metres forward. The man died at the scene from his injuries. His 48-year-old companion sustained a leg injury and was taken to hospital.

Law enforcement officers detained the mobile crane driver under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. During testing with a “Drager” device, he was found to show signs of intoxication: his blood alcohol level was almost three times the legal limit.

Information has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations on the fact of a breach of road traffic safety rules while under the influence of alcohol, which resulted in the death of a victim (Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). A decision is being made on notifying the driver of suspicion and choosing a preventive measure. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.
