The Ministry of Veterans Affairs, together with OVA, works to ensure that servicemen receive everything they need for integration into society, community, and family after completing their service.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Veteran Affairs of Ukraine, Yulia Laputina, regarding the priority directions of the state veteran policy. Preparations for the implementation of the Strategy for the transition from military service to civilian life are currently underway.
One of the key points will be the creation of the veterans’ assistant institute in Ukraine.
“We plan that specially trained people will work in Ukrainian communities on the principle of “equal – equal”, who will establish communication between veterans with the entire bureaucratic system, help with the necessary information about social guarantees, veteran services, etc. In addition, future assistants will be trained in the peculiarities of psychological interaction with people who have returned from the war zone. The Helper is, in fact, a friend for the Defender, to whom a person can turn for help and not feel abandoned. We are working to ensure that Ukrainian society is ready for the mass return of our Soldiers after the victory, to promote their quality reintegration into peaceful life,” Yulia Laputina emphasized.
The meeting was held online. It was attended by the head of the Lviv OVA Maksym Kozytskyi, the deputy head Ivan Sobko, the adviser to the head of the Lviv OVA and the coordinator of the advisory and coordination centers of the region Halyna Bordun and the director of the LOVA social protection department Roman Andres.
At the regional level, future veteran assistants will be trained at veteran development centers on the basis of designated higher education institutions. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv should become such a higher education institution in the Lviv region.
Veterans’ development centers should be fully operational already this year. They will become a component of the reintegration of veterans into civilian life and create prerequisites for acquiring, restoring and improving professional knowledge, abilities and skills of veterans and their family members to increase their competitiveness in the labor market.
In the communities of the four pilot regions participating in the project, service offices will be created where such assistants will be employed. They will coordinate their activities, ensure their interaction with all state and non-state institutions according to the list of services that will be provided to veterans and their families.
The pilot project of the Ministry of Veterans to create a veteran’s assistant institute is implemented in 4 regions: Lviv, Vinnytsia, Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk. Read more at the link: https://loda.gov.ua/news/62137
