Vodokanal Municipal Utility Receives Modern Energy Storage Systems

The municipal enterprise Vodokanal has received modern electrical energy storage systems designed to improve the stability of the utility’s operations and enhance its energy independence. The equipment is already planned for installation at the Pravdinske water intake facility and later at the Mezhyrichchya facility. The head of the enterprise, Volodymyr Soldat, reported this.

According to him, the new systems will perform several key functions. In the summer, they will store surplus electricity generated during the day by solar panels, so that in the evening peak consumption hours the accumulated resource can be used to ease the load on the grid.

An important function of the storage systems will also be their operation as a backup power source. In winter, when solar generation is significantly lower, the batteries will be charged from the power grid and will be able to keep Vodokanal facilities running during power cuts or disruptions to electricity supply.

“This solution tackles two important tasks at once: storing surplus electricity for later use and supporting the utility’s operations during power supply disruptions. Where necessary, part of the time we can run on generators and part of the time use the energy accumulated in the batteries,” noted Volodymyr Soldat.

Similar energy storage systems have also been supplied to the Sheptytskyi Central Hospital, the Chervonohrad Mining and Construction Vocational Lyceum and the Chervonohrad Mining and Economics Professional College. This will enable these institutions to ensure continuity of operations in the event of possible power outages.

The supply of equipment has been carried out under the “Winter Aid” package provided by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) as part of transitional aid. The project is being implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ Ukraine) GmbH.
