Lviv oncology centre to attract over UAH 100 million from EIB for building reconstruction

The Lviv Regional Oncology Treatment and Diagnostic Centre will receive over UAH 100 million in loan funds from the European Investment Bank for the reconstruction of part of its premises. The relevant decision was adopted by the Lviv Regional Council on 13 October, giving consent to conclude an Agreement on the transfer of loan funds for the implementation of a sub-project for the capital repair of building letter Zh-3.

The financing will be provided under the Ukraine Recovery Programme III. As explained by the medical facility’s Director General, Oleh Duda, the agreement on the transfer of funds is planned to be concluded between the Lviv Regional Council, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, and the Capital Construction Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration.

The project provides for the refurbishment of the oncology centre’s older buildings, primarily those currently housing the chemotherapy department and the outpatient clinic. More than 2,500 patients undergo treatment in the chemotherapy department each year, and the outpatient unit provides over 170,000 consultations annually, so these facilities require modernisation in line with current standards.

“This agreement envisages the implementation of a project to reconstruct the old buildings of the Lviv Oncology Centre, in particular those where the chemotherapy department and outpatient clinic are currently located. I would like to note that more than 2,500 patients are treated in the chemotherapy department every year, and the outpatient clinic provides over 170,000 consultations. Therefore, these premises need upgrading, taking into account all accessibility requirements and the provision of a shelter,” said Oleh Duda

According to the head of the oncology centre, once the agreement is signed the facility will be able to start repair works as early as the beginning of next year. The total cost of refurbishing the premises under this project is around UAH 250 million, so the funds raised from the European Investment Bank will cover a significant share of the required expenditure.
