Eurotrack with a width of 1435 mm will be built on the section from Mostyska to Lviv

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Ukrzaliznytsia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksandr Kubrakov and US Ambassador Bridget Brink.

According to it, USAID will help modernize the section from Mostyska station, which is located on the border with Poland, to Lviv (Sknyliv). The first stage will be the creation of a technical and economic justification of the project. “One of the important tasks for increasing the export capacity is the modernization and replacement of tracks, if necessary, the construction of new ones. The signing of the Memorandum with USAID will have a tangible impact on the recovery of the Ukrainian economy and will contribute to European integration processes in general.

It is also important that this track will be used not only for cargo, but also for passenger transportation in the direction of EU countries,” commented the Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine – Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov.

Eurotrack with a width of 1435 mm will be built on the section from Mostyska to Lviv. The further development project will include connecting the Eurorail with Uzhhorod, Kovel, Chernivtsi, and at a later stage – with Kyiv and the east of Ukraine. USAID will also promote the further integration of Ukrainian railways into the TEN-T system.

We will remind that since the beginning of the large-scale invasion, USAID – US Agency for International Development has provided the Government of Ukraine with aid worth more than $21.7 billion, which makes it one of the largest bilateral donors of Ukraine. USAID handed over 105 diesel generators to Ukrzaliznytsia.

Also, Ukrzaliznytsia and DAI Global signed a memorandum on the implementation of the international technical assistance project “Economic Support of Ukraine”, financed by USAID.
