In two localities of Lviv region – Staryi Sambir and Batyatychi – construction of housing for internally displaced persons is being resumed. Under the initiative, 114 flats will be fitted out here for long-term rent.
It is envisaged that 80% of the housing will be allocated to families of internally displaced persons who have lost their homes due to the war, and the remaining 20% will go to preferential categories of residents of local communities. The progress of the works and the next steps were agreed during a working meeting attended by representatives of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the territorial communities.
At the site in Staryi Sambir, dismantling is already under way, and IOM has announced a tender for the full range of construction works. In Batyatychi, design and cost-estimate documentation is currently being prepared and engineering utilities are being connected to the future residential facility.
“For someone who has lost their home because of the war, housing is much more than just square metres. It is an opportunity to feel safe and stable again and to confidently make plans for the future. We must ensure strict adherence to schedules and that all parties to the project meet their commitments,” emphasised Deputy Head of the Lviv Regional State Administration Khrystyna Zamula.
The initiative is financed by the German government through the KfW Development Bank KfW in partnership with the International Organization for Migration. The project aims to create long-term conditions for the integration and comfortable life of displaced people and preferential categories of residents in Lviv region.
