The development of the agricultural sector in Ukraine amidst the war holds particular strategic importance.
Agriculture remains one of the key sectors that ensures the country’s food security and supports the economy. At a time when many enterprises have ceased operations and numerous territories have suffered from warfare, preserving and enhancing the agricultural potential is a crucial element of national security. The country’s **food independence** is as essential as its energy and military strengths.
In the Drohobych community, the development of the agricultural sector also has a social dimension. The communal farm ‘Tarkom’ exemplifies how local governance can effectively use land and community resources to create a food base for implementing social programs.
The development of the agricultural sector in the community is also planned to extend into the educational field. Notably, by the city’s leadership initiative, the development of specialized educational institutions is planned – specialized schools where, besides obtaining a general secondary education within the school curriculum, students can acquire skills in the agricultural sector. Such a specialization is planned to be developed particularly in the Lishnya Lyceum.
To support the agricultural sector and implement a targeted program, the Drohobych community has secured the backing of international partners. Notably, the agricultural cluster of Austria.
Enhancing the agricultural sector today is more important than ever. With such actions, we demonstrate that even during wartime, communities can be self-sufficient, manage resources effectively, and strengthen the economic front. Development of the agricultural sector in such conditions is not just an economic issue, but a manifestation of resilience, mutual support, and faith in Ukraine’s recovery, stated the Mayor Taras Kuchma.
