In Lviv, enhanced monitoring of air conditioning systems on public transport continues. On 24 June, staff from the Transport Department of Lviv City Council inspected 33 buses on routes Nos. 20, 23, 34 and 43, as well as 11 trolleybuses operating on routes Nos. 30 and 32.
During the inspection, faulty air conditioning units were found on 6 buses on routes Nos. 23, 34 and 43. Four violations were recorded at TzOV “Fiakr-Lviv”, and a further two at PAT “Lvivske ATP-14630”. For each case, the operators must pay a fine of UAH 1,700.
Air cooling systems in the passenger compartments of two trolleybuses on route No. 32 were also not working. The Transport Department explained that, under the current contract with LKP “Lvivelektrotrans”, the city cannot impose financial penalties on the company, but responsibility for the violations lies with the depot and company management.
In total, based on inspections carried out last week and this week, 28 cases of malfunctioning air conditioning systems have been recorded on Lviv public transport.
Oleh Partyka, Head of the Lviv City Council Transport Department, has previously noted that public transport is monitored throughout the year, with particular attention paid to the operation of air conditioning units in summer. According to him, the city has already inspected almost 80% of buses equipped with cooling systems.
At present, not all vehicles in Lviv are fitted with air conditioning. Of around 500 city buses, almost 180 are equipped with cooling systems. Air conditioning units are installed, in particular, on some of the buses operating on routes Nos. 5a, 14, 19, 20, 21, 23, 32, 34, 37, 41, 43, 48, 49a, 51, 53, 55a and 84.
Meanwhile, there is no air conditioning on routes Nos. 1a, 3a, 6a, 7, 8a, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 25, 27, 29, 31, 33, 39, 39a, 40, 45, 46, 47a, 52, 56a, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63 and 92.
Of the 134 trams and trolleybuses that run every day, more than 60 are also equipped with air conditioning systems.
To help passengers plan in advance, information stickers indicating the absence of air conditioning have begun to be placed on Lviv public transport. Such notices are already displayed on most units of the city’s electric transport and on some buses.
